My Tribute To Cory Aquino

Finally!

Here's my tribute artwork to the late First Female Presdient of the Philippines, Mrs. Corazon Aquino.

Please read the story of this drawing. This drawing has a big meaning.

The story of this drawing:

It was July 31 in Canada. I was in our family friends house, (There was an incident in my house so we were told to go their hosue until it is fixed) I happen to pass by to their living room, when the TV was on. It was showing the news in the Philippines. While I placed my attention on the screeen, I heard about Cory Aquino's death.

I was shocked. My mom told me that she died 3:18 am Aug 1 in the Philippines. So it means in Canada time it's 3:18 pm July 31. I couldnt believe it.

Actually Aug 1 (of this year) is my 16th bday.

I was really sad. She died on my bday.

When it was Aug 1, my family and I went to Mandarin (an all-you-can-eat restaurant (I love going there )). After we ate (We were really full), we passed by at a dollar store, I bought pencils and a sketch pad. That night I was wondering of what should I first draw in the pad. At first I thought to draw my fave anime charactrer.

But then, I realized something, Ms. Cory Aquino died in my bday, and I should do something for her.

I stopped drawing the character and started working on this drawing. I was limited with resources. I was able to finish the pencils part.

I watched the funeral as well. It made me cry on the speeches, especailly the one that Kris Aquino (Cory's daughter) said. It made me cry so hard.

When I came back to my old house, I started to finish my drawing.

When we bought some markers and crayon pencils. I started to darken the lines and coloured it.

Then it was done in this day. I was really happy.


So that's the story.

The lines there are from the funeral I saw in TV and Internet. I dunno who said them, but I wrote them there to see that the Philippines remembers her and her doings...

The group of people there are the supporters male and female, old and young, every one of the people cheered and chated her name over and over again.

It seemed like I was looking at the 1986 People Power Revolution that she led to bring back democracy to the country. I was amazed what I saw.

The flag was half raised because the country honored her.

The 2 soldiers and the canon (I drew it very badly) were doing the "Volley of fire", a special tribute by the military where they fire their canon into the air.

In the bottom center, I drew there a stargazer flower (I did it badly too). I was watching Kris Aquino's interview on the internet and she said about the stargazer flowers being brought by one of their friends. Saying that a dream told them to bring it to Cory.

The hand there forming a L shape. Is the "Laban" sign. It was famous in 1986 when the People Power Revoultion started.

The other objects there are yellow flowers, a painting of her, a card, candles, and a yellow umbrella. I saw people putting these while I was watching news (I just simplified it because i cant draw a voacue).

In the flag pole I drew a yellow ribbon.
